АБР предоставил Узбекистану $125 млн для модернизации водного сектора.

The Asian Development Bank has allocated $125 million to Uzbekistan for reforms in the water sector.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of $125 million for Uzbekistan to support reforms in water resource management.

The project aimed at implementing intelligent water resource management systems will enhance the efficiency of infrastructure operation, optimize the use of water and energy resources, and strengthen the human capital of the national water supply enterprise. These measures are expected to not only ensure more reliable water supply but also help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

“Uzbekistan's water resources are under serious threat due to climate change and irrational usage,” noted the Director of the ADB's Permanent Representation in Uzbekistan, Kanokpan Lao-Arai. According to her, the project involves the introduction of digital technologies for water resource management, which will lead to reduced energy consumption, increased operational efficiency, and a decrease in the country's carbon footprint.

ADB financing will enable the company “Uzsuvta'minot” and its regional branches to complete the installation of water consumption monitoring and telemetry systems across the country. Additionally, the project will conduct a comprehensive inventory of existing water supply and wastewater management facilities, including around four million customer connections.

An integrated digital platform for managing utility services is also planned, which will improve accounting, control, and the operation of customer service centers. The implementation of new technologies will enhance the transparency of financial reporting and ensure compliance with international standards.

The project aims to reduce operational costs, increase staff efficiency, and improve the quality of services provided.

This year marks 30 years of partnership between Uzbekistan and the ADB. Since the country joined the bank in 1995, the ADB has provided it with financing amounting to $14.3 billion, including loans, grants, and technical assistance.

The Asian Development Bank, established in 1966, comprises 69 member countries, 49 of which are located in the Asia and Pacific region. The bank aims to create a prosperous, stable, and sustainable economy while continuing to implement programs to combat poverty.
