Pavel Durov has released additional information about the Telegram Gateway platform for phone number verification.
The new feature was introduced with a Telegram update launched in early October. According to the co-founder of the messenger, businesses, owners, and administrators of web resources will be able to "save millions" on sending confirmation codes.
Codes will be sent to users via a special chat in Telegram. The cost of one confirmation code will be $0.01 regardless of the country, and there will be no charge for numbers not verified by the messenger.
Telegram Gateway is "much cheaper, faster, and safer than traditional SMS verification," Durov stated. The messenger has just under 1 billion verified numbers in its database, allowing companies that work with it to reduce their costs for these needs.
Currently, according to Durov, Telegram spends about $10 million per month on phone number verification. The businessman believes that these expenses will allow others to save, although he himself doubts the profitability of the service due to "unprecedentedly low prices."
"But we hope that this initiative will make the world more efficient by reducing costs and prices for numerous services around the globe," concluded the co-founder of Telegram.
Earlier, Spot reported that Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development had reached an agreement with Telegram to open an office in the country.
