The government of Kyrgyzstan plans to tighten border control at the state border with Uzbekistan, as reported by the publication 24.kg.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan has developed a draft resolution for the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the implementation of transportation control at five checkpoints. Currently, transportation control is conducted at the following border crossing points: “Torugart-automobile,” “Irkeshtam-automobile” (China), “Karamyk-automobile,” “Kyzyl-Bel-automobile,” “Kulundu-automobile” (Tajikistan), and “Dostuk-automobile” (Uzbekistan).

At the checkpoints where transportation control is not implemented, trucks violate the norms of interstate agreements on international road communication, noted the Ministry of Transport.

Kyrgyzstan may add the following crossing points to the list where customs and transportation control is enforced:

  • on the border with Tajikistan — checkpoints “Kairagach-automobile” and “Bor-Dobo-automobile”;
  • on the border with Uzbekistan — “Kyzyl-Kiya-automobile,” “Kara-Bagysh-automobile,” “Ken-Sai-automobile”;
  • on internal roadways — “Sary-Chat.”
