Starting from October 31, ChatGPT users can take advantage of an updated internet search feature that offers “quick and timely answers with links to relevant web sources.” An overview of this innovation has been published on the official OpenAI website.

The new search functionality simplifies access to current information. Users can pose questions in natural, conversational language, and ChatGPT, in turn, provides information taking into account the context of the chat.

Thanks to partnerships with news and information agencies such as AccuWeather, Financial Times, and Reuters, ChatGPT can now display updated data in categories like weather, finance, sports, and maps.

The system automatically determines when to use web search, or users can manually activate the search by clicking on the globe icon below the message input field.

Each response generated through the search includes links to original articles and blogs, allowing users to easily navigate to the source of information. By clicking the “Sources” button, users can view additional data and learn more from authoritative publications like AP, The Atlantic, Le Monde, and others.

Thus, ChatGPT offers publishers the opportunity to expand their audience by providing users with links to quality content. Companies like Le Monde and Axel Springer view this collaboration as a new path to monetization and strengthening audience trust.

The new feature is already available on the chatgpt.com website, as well as in desktop and mobile applications. ChatGPT Plus and Team users have already gained access to the new search.

For all free users, the feature will be available within a few months.

In the future, OpenAI plans to continue enhancing the search function, particularly in shopping and travel categories, as well as integrating it into voice and visual interfaces.

The company is also testing its own AI search engine. Analysts view the SearchGPT project as an open competitor to Google.
