Law enforcement agencies have uncovered an unauthorized mining farm in Karshi, as reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Officials conducted a raid in collaboration with the State Security Service and the regional Cybersecurity Center of the Internal Affairs Directorate. Three cryptocurrency mining rigs were located in the home of a local resident, A. B., living in the "Oktepa" neighborhood.
The owner illegally connected the equipment to the electricity grid. The damage from their electricity consumption during the operation is estimated at 372 million sums.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the violation under the "relevant articles" of the Criminal Code. In previous similar cases, it related to paragraph "d" of part 2, part 3, or paragraph "a" of part 4 of Article 169 of the Criminal Code (theft for commercial purposes through illegal connection to the electricity grid; large-scale theft; especially large-scale theft).
In the first half of 2024, the Uzenegroinspektsiya reported 75 cases of illegal cryptocurrency mining. The total cost of the electricity consumed by them amounts to 81.6 billion sums.
The largest mining farm found since the beginning of the year was discovered in the Syrdarya region in April. It consisted of 107 cryptocurrency mining devices and consumed electricity worth 34.3 billion sums over two years.
In December, the "Uzenegroinspektsiya" discovered a "grey" mining farm in the Samarkand region, which consumed energy worth $2.2 million. Cryptocurrency mining was carried out using 89 devices in the basement of a family business.
