During the meeting, issues related to the centralized procurement of medicines for medical institutions were highlighted. Some hospitals receive fewer medications than necessary, while others experience a surplus of drugs.
A 15-month demand mechanism is planned to be utilized for the procurement of medicines and medical devices. The needs assessment for the upcoming year will be formulated by August 1, in parallel with the parameters of the state budget.
It has been instructed to establish a Procurement Center under the Ministry of Health, with branches in every region. Starting from 2025, the center will have the authority to carry out direct purchases of medicines and laboratory equipment supplies from manufacturers.
The state of disease diagnosis was also discussed. Within the framework of the screening programs launched in 2021, doctors identified cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at early stages in 122,000 Uzbeks, and precancerous conditions in 49,000 women.
Additionally, an experiment involving the incentivization of medical professionals in the Kashkadarya region was specifically noted. As a result, family doctors detected signs of cancer in 51 women and children, which allowed for a savings of 8 billion sums in treatment costs.
The head of state instructed the Ministry of Health to consider the possibility of extending the screening program. Special attention is planned to be given to breast and uterine cancer, which account for 20-25% of identified oncological diseases.
