It should be noted that starting from April 1 of this year, an excise tax is already being levied on producers of carbonated beverages containing sugar at a rate of 500 sums per liter, and on energy drinks at 2000 sums per liter.
The expansion of the list is linked to the requirements of the World Trade Organization regarding the non-discrimination of specific groups of goods.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Finance intends to reduce the excise rate for drinks that use sugar substitutes instead of sugar. For instance, it is proposed to set the rate for diet carbonated beverages at 300 sums per liter.
The draft state budget for 2025 notes that the new requirements may come into effect on April 1 of the following year.
In the future, the department plans to differentiate excise rates based on the amount of sugar in the products.
