Construction of the Trans-Afghan railway may commence as early as this year.
Uzbekistan, Tashkent – According to AN Podrobno.uz, work is set to commence this year on the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway corridor. The project is expected to take up to five years to complete.

Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov shared this information with the "Uzbekistan 24" TV channel.
The project involves extending the railway that will pass through Afghanistan to access the ports of Iran and Pakistan. One of the implementation options includes a public-private partnership under the "build-operate-transfer" scheme.
It is worth noting that the initiative to construct the Transafghan line was proposed in 2018. Initially, the project was estimated at 5 billion. In December 2023, the cost was revised and increased to 7 billion dollars.
Additionally, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have repeatedly discussed accelerating the project's implementation, most recently during negotiations on January 25.
