U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced on December 19 that the Biden-Harris administration continues to support Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
"The United States is pleased to announce the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on market access for goods and services with Uzbekistan as part of Uzbekistan's efforts to join the WTO," said the U.S. trade representative.
Uzbekistan applied for WTO membership in 1994 and began actively working towards joining the organization in 2020.
Tai emphasized that Uzbekistan's strong commitment to advancing negotiations has resulted in significant progress over the past two years, including the successful conclusion of a bilateral agreement.
It is worth noting that the conclusion of negotiations with the U.S. was reported in early November. At that time, the parties just needed to sign the market access protocol.
