As previously reported by Spot, on February 20, Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved amendments to legislation related to road safety. The new law revises certain fines for violations.
Specifically, the fine for driving a vehicle under the influence will increase to 40 BRV (15 million sums) from the current 25 BRV (9.375 million sums). The license suspension period will be 3 years (currently from 1.5 to 3 years).
For evading a medical examination, the fine will be raised from 15 BRV (5.625 million sums) to 30 BRV (11.25 million sums), accompanied by a three-year license suspension. The same level of fine applies to transferring control of a vehicle to someone known to be intoxicated, along with a license suspension of 2–3 years.
Driving without a license will result in a fine of 50 BRV (18.75 million sums), with a possibility of arrest for 15 days. Similar penalties apply for drunk driving without a license, a driver's refusal to undergo examination without a license, or repeatedly handing over control of a vehicle to someone under the influence.
The absence of a valid tinting permit or customs documents for an imported vehicle, as well as driving with expired customs documents, is treated as driving without documents, incurring a fine of 1 BRV (375,000 sums). It is permissible not to carry a driver's license and other documents if a passport or ID card is available.
If a driver repeatedly ignores the demands of law enforcement officers to stop the vehicle, they will face a fine of 30 BRV. Furthermore, they will be deprived of their license for 1 year.
The fine for damaging roads and violating maintenance regulations has been increased to 5 BRV (1.875 million sums) for individuals and 20 BRV (7.5 million sums) for officials. This also applies to those who fail to restore road surfaces and infrastructure after excavation work.
Additionally, liability is introduced for failing to install barriers, temporary road signs, and traffic lights. In this case, as well as for violations related to the installation of road signs, the fine will amount to 25 BRV.
The law also establishes penalties for disseminating photos or videos of law enforcement officers “with distortions that lead to their discreditation.” In this case, a fine of 20 to 50 BRV (7.5–18.75 million sums) or up to 10 days of arrest may be imposed.
Earlier, Spot reported that 26 locations on the roads were put up for auction for the organization of weight and size control.
