A ceremony for the presentation of credentials took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr Presidential Palace in Islamabad, where the new Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhataev, presented his credentials to President Asif Ali Zardari.
Following the official proceedings, the parties engaged in discussions, during which the current state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-Pakistani relations were addressed.
The meeting participants paid special attention to trade and economic cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of increasing mutual trade volumes and set a goal to reach 1 billion dollars.
In the humanitarian sector, the need to enhance cultural and tourism exchanges was highlighted. The President of Pakistan noted that the planned restoration of direct air links between Tashkent and Lahore in November this year would contribute to the growth of tourist flows and strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
In conclusion, Asif Ali Zardari wished Alisher Tukhataev success in his diplomatic mission to strengthen Uzbek-Pakistani relations.
It is worth mentioning that Alisher Tukhataev was appointed as the head of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Pakistan in early October. He succeeded Oybek Usmanov, who was appointed as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.
