The Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Suriname have officially established diplomatic relations. This step marks a significant milestone in Uzbekistan's strategy to enhance cooperation with countries in Latin America.
A joint communiqué confirming the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations was signed by the permanent representatives of both countries at the United Nations. Uzbekistan was represented by Ulugbek Lapasov, while Suriname was represented by Sunil Algram Sitaldin.
During the signing of the communiqué, representatives from both sides expressed mutual interest in developing comprehensive cooperation. Special attention was given to the prospects for collaboration in the political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The parties plan to intensify contacts to identify specific areas for mutually beneficial partnership.
In addition to bilateral cooperation, Uzbekistan and Suriname intend to strengthen their engagement within international organizations, primarily within the framework of the UN and its specialized agencies. This will enable them to jointly address global issues and contribute to enhancing international security and stability.
For Uzbekistan, the Republic of Suriname, located in the northeast of South America, has become the 158th country with which it has established official diplomatic relations. Expanding diplomatic ties with Latin American countries is one of the priority directions of Uzbekistan's foreign policy course.
