A significant meeting took place among the leaders of the governments of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The negotiations were held at a symbolic location—the point where the state borders of the three countries meet: in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, and the Sughd region of Tajikistan.
Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev, and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda discussed a range of issues aimed at deepening multilateral cooperation. The focus was on the prospects of expanding collaboration in critical areas such as trade, logistics, the water-energy sector, and humanitarian ties.
Particular attention was given to the topic of delimitation and demarcation of state borders. The participants noted the positive conclusion of the delimitation process between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the exchange of ratification letters for the agreement on the "Kyrgyz-Uzbek State Border." The government leaders emphasized the strategic importance of developing cross-border and interregional connections, viewing them as a catalyst for activating the entire spectrum of relationships among the three countries.
The negotiations also addressed mechanisms to facilitate border crossings, which are expected to promote growth in trade and economic relations and enhance interpersonal contacts. Earlier reports indicated that Kyrgyzstan did not intend to grant Uzbekistan a separate corridor to the exclave of Sokh; however, the parties reached an agreement to simplify the border crossing procedures for residents of this region.
Following the meeting, the participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached would serve as a foundation for long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation in the region, contributing to the prosperity of all three states. They noted the high significance of the recent negotiations, emphasizing that the decisions made would influence the region's development for many years to come.
