Uzbekistan aims to secure a seat on the UN Security Council in 2035-2036.

Uzbekistan has officially announced its intention to seek a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2035-2036 term. This was revealed during a UN Security Council meeting where the country presented its position.

The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, delivered a report at the event chaired by the People's Republic of China. The main topic of the meeting focused on strengthening multilateral cooperation and modernizing global governance institutions.

During his speech, Lapasov outlined Uzbekistan's official stance on key areas of engagement with the United Nations. Participants were provided with information on the extensive reforms being implemented in the republic in recent years. Special emphasis was placed on the country's commitment to the principles of multilateralism and its desire to contribute to the strengthening and development of the global governance system. According to the representative, Uzbekistan views its potential role in the Security Council as an opportunity to actively participate in addressing international issues.

One of the central points of the speech was the theme of regional cooperation. Lapasov highlighted the importance of joint efforts among Central Asian countries to ensure stability and security in the region. Uzbekistan's interest in supporting the economic recovery of Afghanistan was specifically noted, as this is seen as a crucial factor for maintaining peace at the regional level.

Furthermore, the representative of the republic expressed the country's readiness to expand partnerships with the UN in combating transnational threats. Among the priority areas mentioned were the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.

During the meeting, UN member states were invited to attend the Forum on Public Service, which is set to take place in Samarkand in June 2025. The event will focus on the theme "Five Years to 2030: Accelerating the Delivery of Public Services for a Sustainable Future." This forum will serve as a platform for discussing further steps towards achieving the sustainable development goals outlined in the UN agenda for 2030.

Uzbekistan also emphasized its strong commitment to maintaining global peace and security. The nomination for the non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2035-2036 is a logical continuation of this policy. If elected, the country intends to actively participate in the work of the body, contributing to the resolution of global challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
