Thus, the total number of countries participating in World Boxing has reached 55.
This information was announced following the second annual Congress of World Boxing, which took place on November 3, 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado, USA.
The inclusion of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, leading nations in global boxing, marks a significant achievement for World Boxing.
Uzbekistan has held top positions in boxing at the last two Olympic Games and led the medal tally in Paris, securing five gold medals. Kazakhstan is also widely recognized as one of the strongest boxing nations.
World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst stated: “At the second World Boxing Congress, we are pleased to welcome four new countries that I am confident will play an important role in our mission to preserve boxing within the Olympic movement.”
“Just last week, we announced the acceptance of seven new members, allowing us to surpass the milestone of 50 countries.
The entry of four more federations, including Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, immediately thereafter emphasizes the growing interest in our organization from the global boxing community,” he added.
He also highlighted: “It is evident that we are witnessing a shift, with more national federations eager to join World Boxing, realizing that this is the only way to maintain their boxers' Olympic prospects.”
It is important to note that Uzbekistan's decision to join World Boxing is linked to the fact that from 2028, IBA members will not be able to participate in the Olympic Games.
