The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved a draft resolution to expand the borders of the city of Samarkand. This information was reported by the parliament's press service.

At the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers, 413 hectares of land from neighboring districts are set to be transferred to the regional center. This includes 170 hectares from the Samarkand district and 243 hectares from the Akdarya district.

A modern town called "Shirin" is planned to be developed in the new territories, featuring a business center and residential complexes. A special directorate, established in accordance with the president's resolution, will oversee its construction.

The new town will comprise 254 apartment buildings, 19 business centers, and other commercial properties, along with 89 entertainment and retail facilities. Plans also include the construction of 50 social institutions and a historical town.

To ensure infrastructure for the area, 180 kilometers of water pipes and 14 kilometers of canals will be laid. The plans include the construction of 112 kilometers of internal roads (including bike paths), 7.2 kilometers of communication tunnels, a 6-kilometer elevated metro, and two bridges.

The cartographic representation of the new borders was reviewed and approved by the mahalla citizen assemblies, as well as the district, city, and regional Kengashes. The project is expected to promote the development of manufacturing and the service sector.
