The first "mahalla bankers" have started their activities in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the Tashkent regional administration.

In the region, 264 positions for "mahalla bankers" have been created, and the process of selecting "assistant agents" in each mahalla is underway. These assistants will work alongside the bankers locally.

The responsibilities of the "mahalla bankers" include studying the business opportunities in the area, engaging with the residents of the mahallas, and assisting in the practical implementation of their projects.

“They will also help residents in obtaining loans from banks, managing their repayment, starting businesses, and marketing their products. They will collaborate on project implementations,” the capital region administration reported.

By 2025, it is planned to employ more than 350,000 residents in the Tashkent region. To achieve this, cooperation agreements have been signed between local administrations and banks in 22 districts and cities to ensure employment and enhance income levels.

Additionally, all commercial banks and local administrations are currently holding joint meetings with entrepreneurs. One of these meetings was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Ayubkhan Kamalov. Participants are specifically looking for solutions to problems hindering entrepreneurial activity and are taking measures to ensure residents' constant employment.

In December 2024, the president approved the proposal to implement "mahalla bankers." They are expected to explore local business opportunities, collaboratively develop business plans with citizens, and provide assistance in obtaining loans, launching businesses, and selling products.

Last week, it became known that banks were allocated $1 billion for loans under the "Mahalla Project." By February 1, "mahalla bankers" are expected to begin their work at the district branches of the banks.

Previously, Spot reported that the Central Bank issued a payment organization license for the first time since August 2023.
