“Uzenergoinspektsiya” reported a significant theft of electricity at a metal processing plant in Tashkent.
The capital's department conducted an inspection at the K. Y. A. enterprise in the Yashnabad district. Employees of the National Security Service, law enforcement agencies, and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office also participated in the inspection.
Law enforcement officials discovered external interference with the electricity metering device. The total damage from the violations in energy consumption amounted to 26.945 billion sums ($2.09 million at the current Central Bank exchange rate).
The materials of the case have been handed over to law enforcement authorities. Previously, in similar cases, there were reports of criminal proceedings initiated under paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 169 of the Criminal Code (theft of electricity for commercial purposes).
According to this article, a fine of up to 300 BRV (112.5 million sums) is imposed, or corrective labor for a period of 2-3 years, or restriction or deprivation of liberty for a term of 3 to 5 years.
On December 10, “Uzenergoinspektsiya” announced the implementation of preventive measures aimed at rational energy consumption. Entrepreneurs were urged to save electricity and disconnect devices from the network when not in use.
