The Tax Committee has released a report on VAT payers registered under the special registration system in Uzbekistan for the year 2024.
As of January 1, 2025, the number of VAT payers exceeded 201,000, which is an increase of 5.7% compared to 2023, when just over 190,000 companies were registered.
The overall growth was more than twice lower than the 12.3% recorded over the 11 months of 2023. However, the number of VAT payers continues to rise significantly in certain sectors of the economy.
The sectors that experienced the highest growth last year were:
- Information technology and communications – 15.2% (3,495 units);
- Transport – 13.4% (8,067);
- Service provision – 10.9% (21,374).
Nevertheless, in January-November 2023, these same sectors grew at a much faster rate: for instance, in the field of information technology and communications, the growth rate was 36.2%, while in transport it was 32.9%.
The highest number of VAT payers is registered in the trade sector (67.1 thousand units), agriculture (46.4 thousand), and industry (26.8 thousand).
In Tashkent, the number of companies that switched to VAT increased by 9.8% — the highest growth rate in the regional context. Following this is Tashkent Region with a 9.7% increase. In Karakalpakstan, Jizzakh, and Kashkadarya regions, the number of VAT payers grew by less than 2%.
