In Uzbekistan, fees for water delivery services to agricultural producers are being abolished. The relevant changes in legislation have been signed by the president and have come into effect.
Farming enterprises will be exempt from the obligation to supply agricultural products for state needs in accordance with contracted agreements.
Water usage limits for agricultural purposes will be approved by local Kengashes in each district or city.
To enhance water resource management, there are plans to fully digitize processes related to monitoring and reporting on water supply.
Additionally, there will be a reorganization within the Ministry of Water Resources system. Irrigation divisions and special services of the ministry will be merged into a new entity—the Water Delivery Service.
In September, the Senate approved a bill stipulating that water intake limits for agricultural needs should be established by basin administrations of the Ministry of Water Resources and regional bodies of the Ministry of Agriculture, with subsequent approval by local Kengashes.
Previously, Spot reported that there is a proposal to reduce the water tax for the implementation of water-saving measures.
