Bashar Assad arrived in Moscow with his family members.

It was previously reported that the Syrian state and political figure, the President of Syria since July 17, 2000, the Supreme Commander of the Syrian Armed Forces, and the Secretary of the Syrian regional branch of the Ba'ath Party since June 24, 2000, had left the country after negotiations with several participants in the Syrian conflict. The Assad regime fell after militants from the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" group seized the capital of Syria—Damascus—while the state army offered no resistance.

It has been revealed that Bashar Assad, along with his family members, arrived in Moscow. Russia granted them asylum, according to TASS, citing a source in the Kremlin.

It is also noted that a Russian plane may have evacuated the former president from Syria. The aircraft took off from Latakia, where the Russian airbase is located.
