New Zealand has appointed a new ambassador to Uzbekistan.

On December 9, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan officially confirmed the appointment of Mark Julian Trainor as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of New Zealand to Uzbekistan. On the same day, a meeting was held between the head of Uzbekistan's foreign policy agency, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and the newly appointed ambassador.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key aspects of bilateral relations and outlined priority areas for further cooperation development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of active interaction between the two countries in shaping a comprehensive agenda for mutually beneficial partnership and its practical implementation.

Special attention was given to promising areas of collaboration, such as sustainable agricultural development, stimulating industrial growth, fostering a "green" economy, and strengthening ties between the business communities of both nations. The parties expressed confidence that joint efforts would lead to significant results in these and other fields.

Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov officially congratulated Mark Julian Trainor on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan and wished him success in his work. It is anticipated that the appointment of the new ambassador will provide a fresh impetus for the development of relations between New Zealand and Uzbekistan.
