Syrian diplomat and Syria's ambassador to the Russian Federation, Bashar Jaafari, referred to the escape of Syrian state and political figure, the 16th president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, as "shameful" and "humiliating." He made this statement during an interview with RT Arabic.
He emphasized that the rapid collapse of the corrupt system indicates its extreme instability and lack of popular support. The diplomat noted that the leader's flight under the cover of night, devoid of any sense of national responsibility, underscores the need for change and ignites hope for a better future. Bashar Jaafari expressed hope for peaceful transformations and stressed his belief in the power of national unity capable of overcoming any challenges.
It is worth recalling that in December of this year, a military coup occurred in Syria, leading to the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. Rebels and terrorist groups, including the Islamist coalition "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," launched an offensive in northern Syria at the end of November and captured almost all major cities in the country within a few days.
The former president of Syria fled the country. He arrived in Russia with his family, where they were granted asylum.
