A meeting of the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan was held in the Chinese capital with representatives of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The main topic on the agenda was the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the consular and legal sphere, specifically the possibilities for further lifting visa restrictions between the two countries.
The Uzbek delegation was received by the head of the Visa Policy and Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Song Shiyu. During the dialogue, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of both republics, as well as the expansion of the regulatory and contractual framework for Uzbek-Chinese relations.
Special attention was given to the visa regime. Uzbek diplomats provided their Chinese counterparts with detailed information about the measures implemented in recent years aimed at creating a favorable investment climate, stimulating entrepreneurial activity, and developing the tourism sector in Uzbekistan. Reforms aimed at optimizing visa procedures were also highlighted.
Representatives of Uzbekistan emphasized that further easing of the visa regime with foreign countries, including the signing of agreements on mutual waiver of visa formalities, is one of the key areas of consular and legal cooperation.
The Chinese side highly praised the transformations in Uzbekistan's political and economic spheres, underscoring the achievements in visa liberalization with other countries. Representatives of the Chinese foreign affairs agency expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in this area, which could indicate a potential easing of visa requirements between the two states. This, in turn, will contribute to the activation of trade and economic ties, an increase in tourist visits, and the strengthening of intercultural exchange. Detailed information about specific measures for visa regime liberalization is expected after the conclusion of subsequent rounds of negotiations.
