Uzbekistan has approved a law governing its space industry.

The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has ratified a law that establishes the legal framework for the development of the national space program and defines the strategic directions of state policy in this area.

The new law addresses a wide range of issues related to the exploration and use of outer space. It enshrines fundamental concepts and principles of space activity, the goals of its implementation, as well as the competencies of government structures responsible for the realization of space projects. These include the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Digital Technologies, its subordinate Agency for Space Research and Technology, as well as the Ministry of Defense.

The adoption of the law is aimed at creating a transparent and effective management system for space activities, reducing potential threats, and ensuring legal protection for participants in space initiatives. It is expected that the new law will positively impact the development of various economic sectors, including land relations, geological exploration, seismic safety, transport infrastructure, as well as agriculture, forestry, water management, and road construction.

The document regulates the conduct of scientific research in space in detail. It lists types of space systems, such as remote sensing of the Earth’s surface, space observation, satellite communication, high-precision satellite navigation systems, and others. The law also establishes procedures for the labeling, leasing, and disposal of spacecraft and technical equipment. Special attention is given to issues of protecting space infrastructure and ensuring the safety of space operations, financing space programs, and international cooperation in this field.

The law emphasizes the importance of applying space technologies to achieve objectives in the scientific, socio-economic, and environmental spheres, as well as in defense and national security. Measures are provided for monitoring the impact of space activities on the environment, natural resources, and public health. The new legislative act aims to guarantee the sustainable development of Uzbekistan’s space industry and its integration into the global space community.
