In the Russian Federation, there has been a proposal to impose a commission on money transfers made by migrants. This initiative was put forward by Sergey Mironov, a deputy from the "Fair Russia — For Truth" faction in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
The parliamentarian believes that it is essential to introduce a state fee on cross-border transfers for foreign citizens. He pointed out that last year, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan transferred over $14 billion from Russia to their home countries.
According to him, most migrants do not pay any taxes in Russia while transferring vast amounts of money out of the country with the government's full indifference. Mironov emphasized that implementing a 3% fee could generate more than 45 billion rubles for the Russian treasury.
“Do we really not need such funds? We will prepare a legislative initiative and submit it to the State Duma,” the deputy stated.
