Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov has been elected president of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), receiving 120 votes. This information was reported by TASS.

The elections for the head of the organization took place in Tashkent. Usmanov's candidacy was supported by 103 countries, and he received a total of 120 votes. His only competitor, businessman Otto Draakenberg, garnered 26 votes.

In late October 2024, it was announced that the 71-year-old Usmanov was nominated for the position of president of the organization. The acting president of the federation for the past two years has been Emmanuel Katsiadakis from Greece.

The Russian billionaire has led the FIE since 2008, but suspended his duties in March 2022 due to European Union sanctions.
