Alisher Usmanov has suspended his role as head of the FIE.

"The FIE Executive Committee convened on December 1, 2024, and was informed of Mr. Alisher Usmanov's decision to voluntarily suspend the exercise of his powers and duties as President of the International Fencing Federation to ensure the effective operation of the federation. The Executive Committee accepted and ratified Mr. Alisher Usmanov's decision," states the announcement.

According to the federation committee's decision, Emmanuel Katsiadakis from Greece has been appointed as the interim President.

On November 30, at the FIE conference in Tashkent, Usmanov was elected as its president, receiving 120 votes. He had led the federation since 2008, but suspended his powers in March 2022 due to European Union sanctions.
