On the night of Saturday to Sunday, December 15, a professional boxing event took place in Monte Carlo, featuring Uzbek boxer Murodjon Akhmadaliev in the main fight.
In the lightweight bout, the former world champion, 30-year-old Akhmadaliev (12-1, 9 KOs), faced off against 27-year-old Mexican Ricardo Espinosa Franco (30-4, 25 KOs). The interim WBA championship belt was at stake.
Murodjon started the fight aggressively and knocked his opponent down in the third round. The Uzbek boxer sent Espinosa to the canvas twice, and after the third knockdown, the referee stopped the match, declaring a technical knockout. Thus, Akhmadaliev became the holder of the WBA Interim title.
After the fight, Akhmadaliev expressed his desire to step into the ring against the undisputed world champion Naoya Inoue in 2025. He added that he is ready for the bout if the Japanese boxer is not afraid of losing his championship.
Naoya Inoue will defend his titles on January 24 in a match against IBF mandatory challenger Sam Goodman.
Japanese Inoue is the reigning undisputed world champion in the super lightweight division, holding the WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA belts, and remains undefeated in professional boxing.
