Uzbekistan narrowly lost to Qatar in the final moments of their qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup.

The Qatari national team forward Ali Almoez scored two goals in the first half. Uzbekistan made a comeback in the second half, with Abbosbek Faizullaev netting a brace. Lucas Mendes put his team ahead in the last added minute of the game.

It is worth noting that on the 24th minute of the match, Uzbekistan's captain Eldor Shomurodov left the field due to an injury. The Roma forward was replaced by Jaloliddin Masharipov.

In a parallel match of the group, Kyrgyzstan lost to the UAE team with a score of 0:3. Iran triumphed over North Korea with a score of 3:2.

After five rounds, the Uzbekistan national team continues to hold second place in Group A, having accumulated 10 points. Qatar, with 7 points, is in fourth place, sharing the same points with the UAE national team. The Iranian footballers lead the group with 13 points.
